Before I was a…..Alumni Interviews
Austin Widner
Before I was a Attack Helicopter Pilot, I was a Redhawk Wrestler:
Name: Austin Widner
Years Wrestled: 2013-2017
What wrestling taught you: Every facet of life can be taught and experienced on the mat - success, failure, confrontation, the value of hard work, and how to survive when your gas tank is empty but the job isn’t finished. You learn how to push past your limits in practices so you never get there during a match. Training is the hardest part, but it’s the most important to your success, and the same is true in life.
Life after HS: Since wrestling at Liberty high school, I graduated in the top 1% of my class at the United States Military Academy at West Point with a degree in mechanical engineering. While there, I passed Air Assault school and conducted summer research at MIT Lincoln Labs. After West Point, I graduated flight school and am now a 1st Lieutenant in the United States Army, serving as an AH-64 Apache Helicopter Pilot.

What wrestling taught you: How to be a team player, discipline, and self-motivation. I truly believe it taught me how to be a good person and good athlete
Personal Accomplishments: I am in law school and was recently published. My paper is on sports and I truly don’t believe I would be where I am at if it wasn’t for sports and wrestling in particular.
Deleon Freeman
Jordan Robison
Before I was a Strength and Conditioning Coach at Army West Point, I was a Redhawk Wrestler:
Name: Jordan Robison
Years Wrestled: 2014-2017
What wrestling taught you: Wrestling taught me everything. There is nothing about me now that I cannot, in some capacity, owe to the sport of wrestling. Hard work, discipline, focus, and how to talk to myself the right way when things get difficult.
Accomplishments & Memories: My time at LHS as a wrestler will forever live in my mind. Winning state duals and winning an individual state title were great memories but I think of them the least. What I think about the most are the times I disregarded the most in the moment. Practice, conditioning, bus rides, weight cuts with teammates, and those kinds of small moments are my absolute favorite to think about now, what I truly remember about my time as a Redhawk.
Jordan Johnston
Before I was a Wrestling Coach, I was a Redhawk Wrestler:
Name: Jordan Johnston
Years Wrestled: 2015-2019
What wrestling taught you: Wrestling taught me that if I stay disciplined, I can accomplish more than what I thought I would be capable of doing.
Accomplishments: Collegiate All- American, College Valedictorian
Before I was a Personal Trainer, I was a Redhawk Wrestler:
Name: Broderick Green
Years Wrestled: 13 Years
What wrestling taught you: Wrestling taught me to be tenacious. Anytime something seems tough, I know that I just need to keep working at it and the results will follow.
Personal Accomplishments: 4 year starter for Fort Hays State University and lead the team in pins as a freshman. Tx state runner up, and dual team state champs. Bachelors in Health and Human Performance.
